Sophia School, Kota Jn. was started in July 1960 in response to demand from the railway staff. Mr. B.M.Kaul Divisional Superintendent, WR Kota, allotted railway bungalow to start the classes.
Sr. Angela, during her tenure of office as Mother General of Mission Sisters of Ajmer established this school. Sr. Leonie was the first supervisor and head mistress of this school . The school began with the KG Class and reached full fledged primary section in 1962.
Rev Mother Angela, Mother General ,of Mission Sisters of Ajmer along with a selected number of sisters visited KOTA on 20th May 1960, to witness the opening of the School and Mr. B.M. Kaul, laid the foundation stone. Rev. Father Poppin blessed the stone. A batch of 4 sisters were nominated to begin the working of the school.
As the school building was under construction , the Railway Authorities allotted building No: 42/W to start the classes. The School opened on 15th July 1960 and 240 students were admitted . As some of the students were coming from great distances even 10 miles, Sr. Leonie arranged a bus for the school as a temporary measure. By January 1961, the number on rolls reached to 320.
As there was no more room, admission had to be stopped . Due to the phenomenal success of the School, the education department granted provisional recognition to the Institution as a primary School in February 1961 and the school got approval for opening higher Classes in the later years. Later on we opened a branch at Gumanpura 1964, where classes were held in a hired bungalow.
In the same year, Rev.Fr. Benedict Fernandes approached the collector of KOTA for a boys school and the state authorities allotted land where presently St. Paulu2019s school, Mala road exists.u201cSo we proudly say that ours is the pioneer institution that laid the foundation of both Sophia Sr. Sec girls school, Vallabh Nagar and St. Paulu2019s school, Mala Road Kota Jn.u201d
A new block was constructed in the year 1979-80 to provide adequate accommodation for the classes.
In the year 1997, Sr. Gerarda was the principal, with her tireless efforts got permission to upgrade the school. Sister got our school registered to the education board for Permanent Recognition. In 2000 under the flagship of Sr. Josain the school introduced Ninth class as per the NCERT syllabus.With Sr. Sybil as Principal in 2003 the CBSE made our school Board examination center for X and XII for 800 students and our first tenth class batch appeared for board exams in 2003.
Now we are a full fledged secondary school carving a niche of its own u2014 Where love and concern for humanity, country, society, community and family is regularly imbibed and inculated through class assemblies. Where leadership qualities of confidence, decision making, responsibility and responsiveness, mutual trust and loyalty are carefully cultivated .
